If vows are what ground us, intentions are what gently guide us. They offer direction without pressure, helping us stay connected to what matters while remaining flexible and compassionate with ourselves.

Intentions are often misunderstood. They are confused with goals, mistaken for resolutions, or treated as another self-improvement task to complete correctly.

But intentions are something else entirely. An intention is not about fixing who we are, it's about how we choose to relate to our life—moment by moment. Intentions are flexible. They adjust as energy changes, as circumstances shift, and life moves on.

They ask:

  • How do I want to show up?

  • What quality do I want to practice?

  • What matters most in this season of my life?

You might recall your own vow now, or simply the value you chose to stay in relationship with. For example, my vow last month was to stay in relationship with gratitude, my intention this month is to notice moments of sufficiency, small reminders that I already have what I need to meet this day.

Intentions support out mental health by encouraging awareness before action, reduce feeling of shame or perfectionism as well as supporting regulation, clarity and trusting ones self.

Set intentions by asking yourself: What do I need right now? What feels supportive? Your intention might be rest, kindness or setting boundaries. You will know, trust yourself.

Let your intention meet you where you are. Intentions are not something you succeed or fail at. They are things we stay in relationship with and some days may be easier than others, that's ok.

Change does not happen all at once. It happens through steady commitment, gentle awareness, and small practices repeated over time.
